Thank you for your interest to support the STARBASE Wisconsin program with Guest Speakers from your
organization.

Intent: The career guest speaker provides a 30 minute (per classroom) overview about how their career uses Science, Technology, Art/Design, Engineering, and Mathematics to conduct job duties. Many professions may be pertinent. Contact us if you are interested. For example, a barber or hairstylist may explain how the hard sciences of biology and chemistry are used in the beauty and hair care industry. Chemistry creates hair care or enhancement products applied to the hair. Biology teaches the hair’s structure and head’s anatomy as a part of the body.

Five Elements of the Guest Speaker Presentation:

  1. Speakers may show a short video which shows active work on the job or a short digital presentation (PowerPoint) about the speaker’s work experience. It is about five minutes total.
  2. Bring examples of work that show tools, a finished product, etc. used in the roles of the presenter’s work.
  3. Tell us a little about yourself to introduce you to the class by answering these questions.
    – Where are you from?
    – Where is the furthest point that you traveled?
    – Tell us about your family or household.
    – What is your favorite hobby or sport?
    – Do you have a pet?
  4. Answer these career questions for the students:
    – What is your education and work experience?
    – What are your career goals for the future?
    – How did you gain an interest in the service industry?
  5. Speakers are dressed in their work uniform.

Frequency: Every 5 weeks or Fridays when a school attends for the entire week.

Number of Speakers Sought: Four speakers every five weeks if the same person stayed for 1.5 hours at STARBASE Wisconsin.

Special Note: Near the end of the school year or some holiday breaks, sometimes a school comes for an entire week. When schools come for a full week, we need a speaker on Fridays only.

Time Commitment: 3 hours (includes driving time) for one guest speaker for the day.
