Milwaukee, Wis. — On March 27th, the Women in Aviation’s Southeastern Wisconsin chapter sponsored an aviation education day at the Waukesha County Airport.
Milwaukee, Wis. — May 21st was Saint John Vianney (SVJ) School’s 2021 High Interest Day. This day is an opportunity for students to participate in sessions with educational institutions to explore career or leisure topics more deeply such as aviation, karate, and veterinary science.
Milwaukee, Wis. — On September 26th, STARBASE Wisconsin instructors, Jacquelyn Boyd, Tiffany Newton, and Michelle Klos-Gonzalez provided STEM education at the virtual Wisconsin National Guard Badger Youth Camp. Badger Youth Camp is an opportunity to enjoy a sense of adventure and belonging through sharing of military connected youth from around the state. All youth are children of active Wisconsin National Guard Airmen and Soldiers. Eight youth along with three adults participated in the virtual event via a video conference.

STARBASE Wisconsin’s (STARBASE WI) mission is to educate and inspire youth in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Since 2012, STARBASE WI has served over 6,839 urban youth. As an academic outreach program of the Department of Defense and Wisconsin Air National Guard, they provide educational access to exciting, technology rich environment, in-kind services, and volunteers. STARBASE WI partners with the Milwaukee Public School District and the local Boys and Girls Club to provide STEM programming during the school day and afterschool. There are 66 STARBASE locations in the U.S. in 40 states and Puerto Rico.
Milwaukee, Wis. — On October 5th, young women participated in the International Girls in Aviation program providing them with an introduction to aviation careers to include airport operations, air traffic control, airline operations and the science of flight.
Milwaukee, Wis. In August, STARBASE Wisconsin Staff taught aviation education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s (UW-M) College for Kids program. Kids in college are encouraged to participate in exciting summertime, hands-on learning experiences in math, science, fine arts, and humanities. Twelve middle school age students participated in the Science of Aviation course. This course introduced students to the aerodynamics of flight, aviation terminology, flight planning and flight simulation and identifying weather conditions from cloud patterns.
